The author hopes that the present volume may likewise do its part. To those who have undertaken similar studies no apology need be made for such inadequacies as exist. These may be overcome in time as our methods of collecting and tabulating school statistics are refined. The au thor has tried to point out plainly these inadequacies in order that they may be properly evaluated by the reader and so be made the basis for constructive criticism.
