But our proof does not rest here. 'clinical observation has long since established the alteration of the blood in diseases which are termed putrid the blood appears to be in a partial state of dissolution: its vitality is destroyed, and its fibrin either not elaborated, or dis solved in the process of putrefaction. As a result of this decomposition an increased quantity of hydro-sulphate of ammonia has been found in the blood of patients suffering from Typhus and other malignant diseases; and hence the alkaline reaction of the urine that is so often observed to be present in these fevers.
