Proceedings of a Meeting of the Scientific Working Group on the Chemotherapy of Malaria, UNDP/WORLD BANK/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, held in Geneva, Switzerland, 27 - 28 February 1984;Malaria remains the most serious and widespread of protozoal diseases affecting man, threatening millions of people in more than 90 countries. Primaquine, a tissue schizontocidal drug first introduced in the 1940's, is still, despite some toxicity problems, the best all-purpose antimalarial agent. Until recently, little was known about primaquine's mode of action or activity. This book presents the latest findings on its pharmacology, pharmacokinetics and metabolism with the objective of achieving improved regimens for its use and as a basis for the development of related antimalarial compounds.
