Prestressed concrete is now widely used in the construction industry in buildings, bridges, and many other civil engineering structures. The purpose of this book is to explain the fundamental principles of design for prestressed concrete structures, according to the provisions of BS 8110: 1985 Code of Practice for the structural use of concrete. Although the emphasis is on design, the problem of providing a structure to fulfil a given purpose, fundamental concepts are also covered in detail. All major topics are dealt with, including prestressed flat slabs, an important and growing application.
