As is typical of Finnissy, this piece is demanding for the performers. The tempo is slow at crotchet = 66 and much of the music of the upper two parts consists of sustained notes, with more movement occurring in the piano. The clarinet part can be played on the violin. The piece was commissioned by the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
