Publisher's Synopsis
California has been the most populous state in the United States since the 1970 census when the population of California exceeded the population of New York. Surging number of Latinos and Asians accounted for virtually all of California's population growth during the last decade. California's population has consistently grown faster than the population of the other 49 states. Over the last two decades, most of California's population growth has been directly attributed to natural increase rather than migration.
