Publisher's Synopsis
Back just after the turn of the 20th century a boy was born into a happy Midwest family. But little Joe's life turned into a nightmare when his mother died of typhoid fever, leaving him and his little sister, Sybil, with a hard-to-live-with father. His chores and school kept him busy and moderately happy until Papa married a woman Joe couldn't get along with. From there he lived a surreal, exciting, dangerous existence for a few years, then one as unusual as any young man ever experienced. Joe grew into manhood during the Great Depression, surviving in a similar manner as many, yet weaving about in its own path. This is an unusual story of a brave boy and even braver man, a trait we all admire.
