Publisher's Synopsis
This book provides broad coverage of relevant issues through perspectives ranging from that of society, the state and the economy as a whole, and finally, through the focus on one particular very large state-owned enterprise undergoing restructuring, privatization and the search for a strategic investor. This book?s unique angle will examine the linkages between the systemic economic changes, the policy changes and the strategic organizational responses. The longitudinal case study approach promotes deeper insights into the multi-faceted, complex processes of transition. Each perspective is original in its approach and taken together they provide a series of unique and revealing images of the transition process. As Poland approaches the 10 year anniversary of transition it is appropriate to publish a book which prompts reflections on the whole process and hopefully contributes to understanding of some of the lessons learned. The book offers lessons in the key transitional issues of sequencing, timing and methods of privatization and the factors which both delay and promote adaptation to the market economy. It will also reveal how the national political situation has a dominant influence over micro level restructuring and modernization.
