Publisher's Synopsis
The liberalization of Europe's borders, creating as it has a virtually "custom-free" environment, has made closer police co-operation in Europe a necessity. However, this co-operation is not merely an outcome of institutional developments in the EC, but has its own imperatives and dynamics.;This volume examines the main theoretical and political issues posed by greater police co-operation in Europe, looking at both conceptual issues and practical problems which need to be addressed - exchange of police intelligence, anti-fraud co-operation, refugees and the external border, data protection and civil liberties.
