Awareness of strategies, policies and preventive actions aimed at improving occupational health and safety is a prerequisite for the formation of a better working environment across Europe. In this context, it is important to examines and identify existing approaches in the European Union regarding legislation, inspection, incentive actions, research, training and preventive services.;This volume attempts a European presentation on data collected from health and safety related strategies in 13 Member States. It draws on the broad outlines of the socio-economic context surrounding health and safety policies, explains the constraints and difficulties in collecting such data, and highlights the different ways in which health and safety issues are perceived and dealt with in the European Union.
