Publisher's Synopsis
Poems from the Crooked Circle is a collection of poems from a writing sisterhood that grew from a workshop over twenty years ago. In the beginning, sitting in a haphazard circle around a living room carpet on a cold January day, they named themselves the Women of the Crooked Circle and committed to meeting weekly to share bread, wine, and most of all words. Together, they have lived through deaths and marriages, births and graduations, economic implosions, meteorological disasters and three or four national leaders. They have laughed and wept in each other's arms, talked of their disappointments and fears, and exploded in jubilation at the occasional small triumphs. In spite of it all, or because of it, they have continued to write every Wednesday evening, year after year. The Women of the Crooked Circle continue to celebrate poetry's call today. The sample of their poetry in this book celebrates their determination to continue to write the truth about their lives.
