Publisher's Synopsis

H ese Verses were written at intervals during a ministry of forty-six years in a busy manufacturing parish, merely as an expression of thoughts which were passing through the mind of the writer, and for his own relief, and without any idea of their publication; and they are now put in print only in compliance with the wishes of many dear friends, whose affection for the author has assigned to them a merit which he cannot.
