A comparative analysis of all known procedures used in crop breeding and selection is presented in this volume. The emphasis is on methodology, based on the author's study of 1,400 research papers which cover the entire history of agricultural plant improvement. Thirty-eight chapters address all aspects of crop breeding - seventeen breeding and selection methods are featured, along with variations of several. Examples, comments and interpretations are given, drawn from the author's 50 years of practical plant breeding experience with the small grain cereals. Bridge theory and application are covered.
