""Pierre Favre, S.J.,: Tireless Apostle" is a biography of St. Pierre Favre (1506-1546). Together with St. Francis Xavier (1506-1552), Favre was the roommate of St. Ignatius of Loyola (1591-1556) while all three were students at the University of Paris. Subsequently, this core group founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Favre was canonized by Pope Francis on December 17, 2013. Importantly, this biography is based wholly on primary sources, for the most part Favre's letters, which Emonet published in a modern critical edition in 2017. Emonet traces Favre's life from his birth and early years in the Alpine village of Villaret in the duchy of Savoy, to his student days in Paris, and then to his peripatetic ministry as a Jesuit crisscrossing Europe in the service of the Church during the age of the reformations. This is followed by a masterful survey and analysis of the distinctive themes of Favre's theology and spirituality. One of the m
