Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Picture of Philadelphia, for 1824: Containing the Picture of Philadelphia, for 1811, by James Mease, M. D. With All Its Improvements Since That Period
Henry Hudson, with the design of finding a North West passage to the East Indies, left the Texel in 1609, but it does not appear from his journals, whether he was employed by the E. India Company, or by an individual. Having failed in the object of his voyage, he followed the tract of the Cabots; coasted along the shores of Newfound land, and proceeding southwardly, anchored off the Delaware.
