Charl spends the remainder of the steamy school holidays seeking out drinking crèches, oblivious to the relationship disintegrating in front of him. On Christmas day in South Africa's surfer town, Durban he summons the dead, and with a kiss in a cemetery seals his fate. As his wishes start to come true, Charl's holiday turns into a dizzying spiral of desperation taking him through suburban homes, decadent clubs filled with lava, seedy bars of 80's subcultures, Mandela, toilet sex and a deal with death.
When he meets the girl of his dreams her games force him to start making choices and finally face the family secret his lies have kept him safe from until now.
