Will Durant was a prominent American philosopher and historian. Durant's books, including The Story of Philosophy, were considered groundbreaking works in helping to popularize philosophy. Durant, along with his wife, received the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction in 1968. Philosophy and the Social Problem, published in 1917, is Durant's first book. Durant discussed what he thought were the reasons why philosophy had become unpopular during the time the book was written.
