Excerpt from Philosophisches Jahrbuch, 1911, Vol. 24: Auf Veranlassung und mit Unterst�tzung der G�rres-Gesellschaft
Noch bevor Arnauld Paris verliess, hatte Malebranche bei einer Zusammenkunft mit ihm den Plan entwickelt, die theo logischen Lehren uber Gnade, Pr�destination und �ber den Ursprung des Hebels rationalistisch zu begr�nden. Beim Abschied gab Malebranche das Versprechen, das vollendete Werk, betitelt: "traite' de la nature et de la gr�ce, Arnauld zur genauen Pr�fung zu unterbreiten. Schon 1680 war Malebranche mit der Ab fassung des genannten Werkes zu Ende und sandte es an seinen Freund mit der Bitte, seine Ansicht �ber die Abhandlung mitzuteilen. Durch andere dringende Arbeiten verhindert, verschob Arnauld vor der Hand die kritische Pr�fung.
