Publisher's Synopsis
All of us are attempting to live "present." But we have a tendency to pendulum swing between performing and escaping. In this workbook, you'll learn how to live in the present. We'll discuss why and how we live outside of ourselves, and how to make adjustments to live comfortably in our own skin.Performing State - In the performing state, a person is trying to earn their self-value, peace, happiness, or acceptance. They may use perfectionism, trying to "fix themselves," attempting to win people's approval, or any other activity aimed at gaining approval, intimacy, or personal value. Escaping State - The escaping state is characterized by "checking out of life." It is often accompanied by an activity designed to disconnect from emotions, life, or intimacy. Common examples include addictions; exaggerated emotional states; frequent TV and/or video game usage; apathy; and isolation. The 3rd Space - The internal state of being present with one's self. In The 3rd Space, the person isn't in reactivity, performance, or escape. It is a state of peace, which allows someone to express themselves fully and effortlessly.
