Publisher's Synopsis
Streep, the grey-brown field mouse, watched as the mice of her litter played together in the sand. She watched contentedly as Peanut, the smallest of the litter, tried to catch his tail. She made her way up into a high branch of the nara plant under which they lived. It was time to tell her children about the dangers of life in the desert, about Shadow, the black-backed jackal and Tjank, the old hyena. As she was speaking, Peanut slipped away. He made his way to the nearest nara plant, determined to explore, and found himself looking into the eyes of Lazybones, the great big puff adder.
