Publisher's Synopsis
Partly Cloudy After Midnight is the first collection written and compiled by author Rae Kelly. The collection focuses on a writer's journey through her 20s into her mid 30s, small moments of self-discovery, and Kelly's path to healing from old wounds. Partly Cloudy After Midnight is a collection of poetry, short stories, and creative nonfiction. It is the author's very first public series of writings painstakingly crafted and bound together over the better part of a semi-lost decade. This book is about all kinds of things, both fiction and non. Mainly though, it deals with the personal journey of a southern Appalachian girl trying to escape her roots only to find solace in them as she stumbles along the path of healing from old wounds, multiple instances of lost identity, and a general sense of malaise. Tired of suffering from self-inflicted sadness, she turned to her writing, both old and new, to try and find a way to make peace with the many broken versions of herself she has lived through. These stories have been written over the course of several years and their compilation is a source of great pride for the author. Kelly has hope that the sharing of her own intricacies, conflict with where she came from, and many years of self-doubt might help another human soul find the comfort and self-acceptance they're searching for. "When things come together, I place my hands over hers as she smooths the tape over the separated edges of her fallen apartness. I whisper to her that it is okay to leave it broken, whatever it is." - Rae Kelly
