Publisher's Synopsis
This book was assembled specifically to address the need for a text that addressed Canadian practices in terms of the establishment and management of protected areas in Canada. It was designed largely as a central text for undergraduate courses in the area ranging from geography, environmental studies and recreation through to forestry, that can be supplemented by additional case studies as required. The main focus is upon large natural parks, particularly the national park system, although two chapters deal specifically with provincial park systems and one chapter involves an analysis of park legislation and practice at national, provincial, regional and municipal levels. Other chapters focus on topics such as the history and functioning of the national park system, visitor and resource management, conservation aspects, nature interpretation, native interests, marine parks, regional considerations and Canada's role in an international context.
