English summary: Who should look after the soul: the pastor or the doctor? What interdisciplinary opportunities and risks lie in palliative and spiritual care? The contributions of a conference held by the department of pastoral care at the theological faculty of Bern in cooperation with the Inselspital Bern and the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches in April 2013 illustrate the different perspectives of medicine and theology. A definition of the terms palliative care, spiritual care and spirituality and an overview of the current state of research is followed by contributions on medical ethics and pastoral care. 'Ethics and Spiritual Care' and 'Pastoral and Spiritual Care' represent two precisely defined theological positions, which are opposed by a medical one in 'Spiritual Care: A task for the doctor?', which is no less precise. A contribution reflecting on the interdisciplinary opportunities and difficulties of palliative and spiritual care concludes the volume.
