Publisher's Synopsis
For 20 years, Doreen Fletcher painted the streets of East London until, discouraged by a lack of recognition by the art establishment, she gave up in 2003. Only a chance meeting with The Gentle Author of the Spittalfields Life blog and subsequent publication brought her painting to public attention. Subsequently, she enjoyed two sell-out shows of her work and had a painting hung in the National Gallery when she was shortlisted for the first Evening Standard Contemporary Art Award. Publication of this monograph coincides with a major retrospective of her work at Bow Arts.
