Publisher's Synopsis

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Sensual impulses and physiological urges are common to animals and men. Impulses

and urges are regulated by instinct in animals, while man is left with common sense,

intelligence, and developed reason to control these. According to the Bhagvat Gita,

the ancient scripture, the impulse is vegan (force, urge, or speed). Further, the scriptures

say, a happy man is one who is able to endure the impulses born out of desire and

anger (Chinmayananda, 1992). Impulses are mental forces operating through the

mind and the intellect. The instinctive impulses are the prime movers of all human

activities (Sivananda, 1952).
