Publisher's Synopsis
The Civil War is over. Walker Calhoun, a former Texas Ranger and commander, sets his eyes on his travels back home to that Tennessee Valley where he built his dreams and started his family. He is no longer that Commander and that Texas Ranger. Those days are far behind him. A misfortunate even takes him to Liberty Hill, a small town in Texas where he then confronts an old friend of his, Jake Featherfoot Wallace who is s Sioux who in fact had stolen Calhoun's horse after leaving him for dead back in Comanche Territory. After shooting him down, believing he was a man who deserved to die, he sets out on a journey not only to finally make it home, but to prevent his neck from being tossed in the noose while searching for his redemption and forgiveness for killing. While out there in the deserts, he comes across many acquaintances, some are old friends like the Texas Rangers, and some are foes. Others are just faces he meets along the way such as Luke Raging Waters, a young Apache boy. Though they all play part of his journey, his past is what haunts him the most. From the streets of Texas at the Silver Moon Saloon where he shoots his old friend to under that Nevada sun where he takes his last ride, he makes his way. Many kills and many years he has under his belt which he never considers a murder, only that the kills are those who has deserved to die or that he was only keeping him and a few others from ending up dead. Will he find the things he searches for most while out there in those deserts and lands unknown? Will he find his redemption and forgiveness before its too late and before he gives into the desert?
