We have heard With our ears, O God, our Fathers have told us What work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.-psalm 44 1.
This Birth-day of washington is a Thanksgiving Day to the people of this country, which it needs no proclamation of Governors to persuade them to remem ber and to keep. It is a day when the image of the venerable father OF his country rises before every heart, and when our national blessings - many of which he was a chosen instrument in securing - pass in review before every mind. I shall, therefore, give expression to the feelings which pervade all our land to-day, if I enumerate some of those blessings, and contemplate the character of him whose memory we revere as the great, the good, the wise Father of his Country. The subject is appropriate alike to the place, and to the day.
