Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Oration of Hon. Daniel Needham, at the Dedication of the Town House in Ayer, Mass;, October 26th, 1876
The bill providing for the incorporation of this town took effect on the sixth day of March of the same year, and up on that day, the first town meeting was held in Ayer, and the last act necessary for launching the town upon its new life, as an independent municipality, took place.
In naming the new town, you had decided to confer dis tinction upon a prominent citizen of a neighboring city; and he, in turn for the honor conferred, desired in some signal way to recognize his gratification.
