This volume studies the mechanisms of oral tolerance and immune regulation. Aspects of mucosal immunity are discussed along with the anatomy and physiology of the gut, immunologic mechanisms of tolerance, as well as the modulation of oral tolerance and its use in animal models of autoimmunity and in the treatment of human diseases. The clinical application of research in oral tolerance is also explored in relation to to rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis and uveitis.
