Publisher's Synopsis

The objective of this manual, ""Operation and Maintenance of Ground Water Facilities"" (Manual 86), is to point out the many factors that need to be considered when dealing with operations and maintenance issues related to ground-water facilities such as water wells and ground-water recharge facilities. The manual begins with a review of the common types of ground water extraction facilities. The next three chapters discuss the considerations involved in the location, design, and construction of water wells and the minimization of water well maintenance problems. The sixth chapter reviews starting and stopping ground water production. This is followed by a brief discussion on the importance of preventive maintenance of water wells. Rehabilitation of water wells and water quality considerations and treatments procedures are presented in chapters eight and nine, respectively. The final chapter presents a comprehensive overview of artificial recharge procedures for both surface facilities and injection wells. A glossary of ground water terms and a list of references are included in the Appendix.
