Publisher's Synopsis

During the Second world War, Hitler set up a quasi-government agency, whose sole purpose was to systematically steal the art of Europe on a grand scale. In 1944 this collection was transferred to a salt mine in the Austrian Salzkammergut region. In April 1945, when Germany was losing the war, rather than let the Allies capture the mine, Hitler ordered the mine, and its huge cache of treasures to be blown up and destroyed. The British Intelligence Service sent in a motely assortment of British and American Allied agents to find and save the looted art before the mad Fuherer could blow it up. The team managed to capture and hold the mine thus saving from destruction, the largest collection of stolen masterpieces ever amassed by one individual - the treasure of Adolph Hitler.
