Publisher's Synopsis

Born in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia in 1924, this book chronicles the wartime experience of Samuel Oxenburg in the United States and Japan. He served in the Coast Guard (Mounted Patrol) in Avalon, NJ and then attended Signalman School in Connecticut. His Landing Craft LCI (L) 320 was NAVY and was beached in a typhoon in Wakanaura Wan. He unintentionally became one of the first people to set foot in Japan as the war ended. His story includes several experiences that you won't read about anywhere else.
