Beth had only agreed on a "trial" basis; that is, one night to start, and if she simply didn't dig it, that would be that. When Matt had transmitted this requirement to Julia, she'd laughed, and said, "Don't worry, if I know James, he'll change her mind. He can be quite persuasive, and I've got him plenty interested in seeing what Beth can do to give him variety."
