Excerpt from On the Value of Annuities and Reversionary Payments, With Numerous Tables, Vol. 1: Under the Superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge
It may be here remarked, that all the tables which have been con structed for this work have been done independently by two separate computers, and the results afterwards carefully compared. The tables for joint lives by the Carlisle rate of mortality at as, 45, 5, and 6, per cent have the values interpolated for those ages where the difference is not some multiple of 5. The difficulty of guarding against every source of error in such a multiplicity of operations has always been felt by the author, but he trusts that the care which has been bestowed on the tables has been such as to render them entitled to confidence.
