Excerpt from On the Osteology of Some of the Loricati
The temporal are formed by the pterotics, frontals, parietals and epiotics. They extend caudad from the latero-posterior edge of the frontal to the caudal end of the skull. In the anterior half it is comparatively shallow but throughout the posterior half it has a depth of nearly one third that of the skull. The fossa harbour some of the muscles for the shoulder girdle.
