I may here remark, that the injected state of the vessels resulting from this Operation greatly facilitates the investiga tion of the structure of the kidney. In connection with this congested state of the Malpighian tufts and venous plexus, it may not be uninteresting to refer to the operation of Sir Astley Cooper for ligature of the abdominal aorta, in which case there was suppression of urine for more than twenty-four hours.
