Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from On Coloured Books for Children
I have thought it would not be out of place to give very brie?y a general idea of how these books are produced, and to show you what progress has been made in their manu facture.
It is not surprising that the art of litho graphic printing should attain to the highest mark of excellence and cheapness combined in Germany when we re?ect that Senefelder, its inventor, was a German (though his invention was first brought to perfection in England), and that the prime necessity to the art - lithographic stone - is quarried in that country. The examples that I have chosen are from the work of a German printer, Herr N ister, of Nuremberg, who ranks among the first colour-printers of Europe.
