During that period, we have beheld the sanguinary wars be tween France and England for this immense domain, and the success of the latter, compelling the surrender of all the country East of the Mississippi, except a small portion attach ed to Louisiana, whose bounds reached from the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean and was at the same time, in the year 1763, ceded by France to Spain, in exchange for the Floridas, ceded to Great Britain.
