The setting of Ocean Forum is the vast expanse of the North Pacific Ocean, one of the greatest of the world′s fishing grounds. To protect the fisheries from over–exploitation and ensure maximum sustained productivity the International North Pacific Fisheries Commission was formed. The history of the commission is a story of countries, people and businesses, deeply divided at first which have orked together at their common fishery problems and thus developed and enhanced friendships. Ocean Forum must have an appeal to those interested in this specific area and its fisheries but this story of international co–operation will teach important lessons for the international scientific management of other ocean fisheries.
