Publisher's Synopsis
If your dog seems to worry when you're heading out, destroys stuff when you leave the house, follows you from room to room when you're home, goes berserk when you come back, and seems to be eyeing you suspiciously even before you leave-you may be dealing with a case of separation anxiety.
Dogs with separation anxiety exhibit distress and behavior problems when they're left alone
But don't worry, this book will help you sort this out.
After trying many different ways and finding out as much as I could I realized that there were lots of things that might cause them anxiety and that I was doing quite a bit wrong.
Some of the things you are going to learn about in this book include:
What causes separation anxiety
How to identify separation anxiety
Preparing the room for separation
Leaving and Returning
Exercise, off Leash and Recall
Games You Can Play
One of the biggest reasons that dogs today are put up for adoption is due to separation anxiety where the owners can no longer cope. It is for this reason that I decided to write everything down that I have learned and that I have used in my own life and with others. If we can teach our dogs as early as we can to get used to us leaving - to see it as just a part of the normal routine then these dogs will be able to remain with their loving owners all their life. For those of us with slightly older dogs, separation anxiety may come as an unwelcome surprise. But it is possible to find a way to deal with it.
You will be surprised at the number of small things that might be making your dog feel this way and just how easy some of the solutions might be.
Of course, some form of separation anxiety will be more severe and your dog might need more help but if you have not tried these methods before they are well worth trying.
