Publisher's Synopsis

The title of this piece is taken from the fourth verse of a poem called 'Vertical Spaces' by Colin Johnson. The piece is demanding for the performer, who has to both adhere to Finnissy's detailed instructions, and has a certain amount of freedom to interpret the occasional bars of graphic score. There are dramatic changes of tempo and overall the piece is to sound 'boisterous'. The piece was commissioned by CoMA for the 'Open Score' project.
