Publisher's Synopsis
Kaya and Jamaal were young and scared when they did what they did. They knew it was the noble, right thing to do, but it still wounded them to their core. Kaya never made peace with their decision, and when their son, Tommy, died in an aviation accident life became almost unbearable for her.
Kaya's struggle to be a loving wife to Jamaal and an attentive daughter to Graham is more difficult than ever. With no children to call her own, her life falls apart. Kaya, in her shame and in her despair, finds a way to look happy and keep up appearances. But there is a cost. What was once a comfort to her, now controls her.
Then, one day in early autumn, Graham gets a phone call from a young man named Otto, who he'd known only briefly through his grandson, Tom. Otto claims he'd met someone who might be The One and she wanted to meet them. Could this be the long-lost child of Kaya and Jamaal?
Kaya believes she can change because the long-lost child is on her way to Alaska to meet her and Jamaal. But does Kaya have the willpower to straighten her life out? And if not, will her daughter, and perhaps the whole family reject her?
Kaya is on a journey. But she is not alone. With her husband, Jamaal, at her side, Kaya learns what love of self and love of family really means.
