I. The problem of a science is to define the elements, of which it treats, by an enumeration of their formal properties. These properties are to be found within the system, of which these elements are the parts. The task of logic is, then, to develop completely its own system, by constructing all the true and all the untrue propositions, into which its elements enter exclusively.
