Additionally, there are obviously a variety of private opportunities generated each time public investments are put in place. More often than not, even where public Operations of some facility or service make sense, it is supported by a supply sector that operates in the private sector to undertake construction, build equipment and provide a variety of support services. These arrangements, too, can properly be de scribed as a form of public-private partnership. In general, it is my view that the current mix of responsibilities works well, and that there is room for a variety of successful approaches to be implemented as may make sense in particular situations. I do not see a need for the Federal government, in particular, to be directive or prescriptive as to how services are provided or what model of private and public roles make sense. Rather, the Federal government ought to be supportive of local decision making and the tailoring of specific outcomes that make sense.
