NO MATTER WHAT, VOLUMES ONE AND TWO, tells the life story of Dr. David Goodwin from his birth to his retirement from the mental health profession at age sixty three. Goodwin's tells of his difficulty in dealing with his childhood education and his dislike of academia in general. However, he managed to overcome his early educational difficulties eventually earning a bachelors degree, two masters degrees and a doctorate degree. Goodwin says he was born with horse manure in his blood and that he wanted to be a rancher and cowboy for as long as he could remember. He spent much of his young life on farms and wanting to spend the rest of his life in the in the saddle. Goodwin says that when he was a kid in high school he was privileged to spend several years working nights as a houseparent at a school for the deaf and blind.
