Publisher's Synopsis
This volume is devoted to the cultural relationships between the German-speaking world and the Netherlands from 1600 to 1830. The focus is on the discourse on alterity in self-image and in the image of the other, interactions in literature and literature, knowledge transfer and transfer of ideas in cultural fields, and translations as a mediator cultural convergences and divergences. These topics are considered against the background of a broad range of research, including literary, philosophical, theological, political, educational and psychological texts. The authors are not only interested in the circulation of ideas between the two language areas, but also shed light on the infrastructure of cultural mediation and the intellectual relationships between scholars in both cultural areas. They continue research approaches that have been undertaken in the past decades and open up new methodological and interdisciplinary focus areas and perspectives.
