Publisher's Synopsis
Ischemia of the myocardium is a leading cause of cardiovascular and total mortality and morbidity, and includes all of the well-understood anginal syndromes that are traditionally associated with chest pain. It is now known that myocardial ischemia can manifest itself in clinically unexpected ways, termed "the new ischemic syndromes".;This volume examines the basic biology, mechanisms, and clinical significance of the ischemic syndromes. The contributors present detailed clinical and experimental information on silent ischemia, stunning, preconditioning, and hibernation. Full consideration is given to strategies for protecting the myocardium from ischemic damage and from reperfusion injury.
