This third edition of the Handbook of Advanced Ceramics has brand new chapters with an internationally-renowned group of editors [Members of the World Academy of Ceramics] and contributing authors. The Editor-in-Chief is Professor Masahiro Yoshimura, from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan and Professor Emeritus, Tokyo institute of Technology, Japan. The authors have been selected because they are leading experts in their respective fields of research.
The Handbook is divided into eight parts. Following a brief introduction that provides a definition of advanced ceramics there are dedicated sections on functional, structural, and biomedical and healthcare ceramics. These are then followed by additional sections on advanced processing, advanced characterization, and advanced simulation and design. There is also a dedicated section on new emerging areas of ceramics research such as: geopolymers, nuclear fuels and waste, water and ceramics, space applications and amorphous conductors. Advanced carbons and glasses are also covered in significant detail. The Handbook is finally brought to a close with a final chapter that discusses future perspectives for advanced ceramics, which is written by Professor Masahiro Yoshimura.
