Publisher's Synopsis

There is an increasing awareness of the importance of neurological injury in the critically ill patients. The goal of this issue is to discuss current knowledge and state of the art management for patients with neurological injury in the general intensive care environment. It will provide the intensivist with concise evidence-based reviews on a broad spectrum of acute neurological conditions, written by leading experts in neurologic and general intensive care, neuro-cardiology and neuro-endocrinology. The selection of authors is designed to reflect the multi-disciplinary nature of current research in this exciting field of acute care medicine. The volume will be divided into three general domains of critical care involvement with neurologic illness: (a) the critical care of acute neurological disorders (e.g., stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, epilepsy), (b) the management of organ dysfunction (hemodynamic, respiratory, endocrine) in patients with acute brain disorders, and (c) the neurological complications of critical illness (encephalopathy and critical illness neuromuscular disorders).
