Publisher's Synopsis
In his works, Hylden examines examines both the constraints and the impact of painting. While the medium of painting is typically understood to result in unique pieces, Hylden's working methods focus on serial production based on mechanical repetition and an efficient selection of materials, including unmixed off-the-shelf metallic paints, flourescent spray paints, stencils, and untreated canvases. The individual work is placed in close relation to a series or to a larger group of works created over a period of time. Each painting is at once an autonomous work and an ongoing working process. Included in this work is a conversation between Natham Hylden and Martijn van Dijk.
